SedRace

Sediment, which is (re-)mobilised further upstream to supply downstream reaches (e.g. removal or redesign of check dams in tributaries, sediment replenishment) needs to be transported before it enters the reach of interest. SedRace helps to assess the time needed until the sediment supply becomes effective, helping in the design of catchment-scale restoration plans.

Consider that:

  • This tool assumes the channel geometry to be uniform between the site of sediment replenishment or dam removal, and the target reach.
  • This tool does not consider eventual deposition of the replenished sediment already on the way to the target reach.
  • The transport of the introduced sediment is subject to dispersion. The travel distance and travel time are related to the median values.
